Physical Education

The Physical Education (PE) curriculum at Anns Grove ensures that all pupils are able to develop the skills and knowledge required to participate in a range of sporting and physical activities confidently and competently, while maintaining a lifestyle that supports both good physical and mental health.

The curriculum is sequenced so that pupils are given regular opportunities to revisit key learning so as to both secure and build upon what they were taught at previous points.

Engagement in PE lessons is ensured through short, snappy activities, opportunities for pair and group work and regular fun and competitive games or challenges. To enable all pupils, irrespective of ability, to participate in and enjoy PE lessons, activities are scaffolded and supported appropriately; more-able pupils are regularly given opportunities to challenge themselves through extension tasks.

In addition to PE lessons, pupils are given multiple, additional opportunities to take part in further physical activity. This includes lunch or after school clubs, a number of sports teams, ‘the daily mile’ and Bikeability training.

The importance of healthy lifestyles is built into the wider curriculum and pupils are encouraged and guided to supplement their physical activity with a healthy and balanced diet.

Pupils are provided with free fruit at break times and a range of high-quality equipment is available for them to play with both independently and with adult supervision.
