Science

Our science curriculum is delivered through half-termly topics which are planned to ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to develop their scientific knowledge, skills and understanding.

All lessons and topics are sequenced in such a manner that allows pupils to revisit, secure and build upon their prior learning.

Through participating in science lessons, pupils are led to be curious, enquiring, appreciate the importance of science in all of our lives and nurture a life-long love of the subject.

Throughout their time at school, pupils further their understanding of how scientists work through the process of planning, preparing, conducting and evaluating investigations and experiments; they are taught a number of key skills such as making predictions, running fair tests and drawing conclusions.

By learning about the contributions of both famous and lesser-known scientists from the past and present, pupils are encouraged to consider science as a potential avenue for further study or a career, regardless of their own background.

Science lessons are made engaging through lots of practical activities and pupils are supported and challenged, irrespective of their ability, through effective and meaningful differentiation.

Pupils engage with science outside of lessons through trips and visits, engaging with professional visitors and taking part in activities such as National Science Week.
