Sports funding

From September 2013 the Government allocated funding directly to primary schools to support the provision of quality PE/sport.  In 2017/18 each school received £16 000 plus an extra £10 per pupil each year – here at Anns Grove that means we recieved £18.580

Our vision for the Primary PE and Sport Premium

ALL children leaving our school will be physically literate with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.

It is expected that we will see an improvement against the following 5 key indicators:

  • the engagement of all children in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles
  • the profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
  • increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  • broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all children
  • increased participation in competitive sport

The Association for Physical Education (afPE) website provides advice on how the Primary PE & Sport Premium should be used.

Swimming & Water Safety

Swimming is an important skill and can encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. All Local Authority schools must provide swimming instruction either in Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2.  At Anns Grove, swimming is taught in Year 3 and 4.  The programme of study for PE sets out the expectation that children should be taught to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively (for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke)
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

What did Anns Grove Primary receive and how did we spend the funding in 2017/18?

For the academic year 2017/18, we received £18,580 of Sports Premium funding. The funding enabled us to increase our PE resources and provide the following:

  • Have a designated  PE specialist offering ongoing CPD for all aspects of the curriculum
  • Combine PE with Healthy Schools
  • Continue staff CPD (staff accessed gymnastics, dance, Key stage 1 fundamental skills)
  • School Kits
  • Purchasing speicalist PE equipment to improve opportunities
  • Sustain and improve quality of Extended Learning opportunities

What will Anns Grove use the funding for in 2018/19?

We have been awarded £18,550 Sports Premium funding for this year and will continue to direct these funds towards self-sustaining, quality PE provision.

The funds will be spent on resources, staff CPD, transport, participation in competitions, health and wellbeing interventions as well as extending opportunites for all children.
