This is England

Our fantastic topic this half term is 'This is England'. This topic is centered around the different migrant groups in the UK from Common Wealth countries, with a particular focus on the Windrush Generation.

All children in 5/6 have made an excellent start to the new half term and have shown high levels of enthusiasm around our new topic - 'This is England'. This topic is centered around the different migrant groups in the UK from Common Wealth countries, with a particular focus on the Windrush Generation.

Already, the children have designed beautiful flags to decorate our displays and have written a newspaper article from 1948 to describe what happened when the 'Empire Windrush' arrived at the Tilbury docks in Essex.

We have also been lucky and have had a special guest, 'Rappaman', who visited our school last Thursday. He delivered an inspiring assembly on his poems and even worked with each class to produce their own raps which were all about the Windrush Generation.

Thank you so much for your continued hard work and support this term. Please continue to use the knowledge organisers for topic and science, as these will help to promote progress in all children.

Thanks again,

The 5/6 Team
